The author compares current U.S. health policies to those of one high-ranking Soviet official who used ideology to dictate science policy and silence critics in the 1930s-1960s. Clinicians are encouraged to join their respective professional societies and health departments in resisting attacks on national infectious disease and prevention guidelines to protect patients and the public’s health.
